Programming

Over time, in meeting with your mentor every week, you get to know each other pretty well.

We also want you to meet other students and other mentors.

Here's a general outline of what we do each quarter.  For our theater, museum, performance and neighborhood events, we collaborate with cultural RSOs. Whether or not you have mentor in the CMP, you are welcome to join us at any of our programs and events.  We advertise all of our programming on RSO listhosts as well as the CMP listhost.

Fall Quarter:

  • 2nd Week: Thursday, 5-7:30 PM: Welcome Dinner
  • 3rd Week: Monday, 4:30-6 PM: Workshop: Reading fast! Getting it done!
  • 3rd Week: Friday or Saturday: Quarterly Theater or Performance Trip. October 20007: the Silk Road Theater Company.
  • 4th Week: Quarterly Scavenger Hunt launched.
  • 6th Week: Monday, 4:30-6 PM: Writing Workshop: What’s the Point? Writing Successful Argument Papers
  • 5th or 6th Week: Quarterly Art & Neighborhood Trip. November 2007: the DuSable Museum in Hyde Park.
  • 10th Week: Sunday, 2-6 PM: Drop in Tutoring and Paper Editing (This opportunity is offered when a good number of students express an interest. Junk food provided to help you concentrate!)

Saturday/Sunday Night of Reading Period: Midnight Breakfast at the Reynolds Club.

Winter Quarter:

Make sure to participate in the following:

Taking the Next Step , just for third-years, sponsored by the College Programming Office.

Celebration of the Life and Work of Martin Luther King. Attend the MLK Keynote Address and as many of the workshops and events sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

  • 3rd Week: Monday, 4:30-6 PM: Writing Workshop: Reading fast! Getting it done!

  • 4th Week: Quarterly Scavenger Hunt launched.
  • 5th or 6th Week: Quarterly Art & Neighborhood Trip. May, 2008: The Art Institute of Chicago, guided tour of the Asian Art Collection.
  • 8th Week: Annual CMP survey launched on line.
  • 10th Week: Complete the annual survey. Enter the raffle.
  • 10th Week: Thursday of Reading Period, 5:30-7:30 PM: End of the Year Celebration at 7/10 Bowling Alley and Restaurant.

Also, please note we encourage students and their mentors to attend as many of the STUDENT ORGANIZATION CULTURAL SHOWS as they can. Invite your mentor to go with you!
